The Boston Celtics stayed in Florida to meet the Miami Heat tonight at 6:30 ET to finish their preseason campaign either 3-1, or 2-2.

The big story for tonight’s game comes from the suspension of Marcus Smart, who will miss just this one game. Allegedly, he missed the team plane down to Florida, an infraction of one of Ime’s team rules, so the coaching staff decided to sit Marcus for tonight as a disciplinary measure. Though it’s too bad Marcus will miss out on some early season reps prior to the season opener, it’s good that Ime’s sticking by his word and not letting anything slide. It sets a good precedent for the rest of the season.

The other Celtics that will not be joining Marcus on the floor tonight include:

  • Jaylen Brown (Health & Safety Protocols) – OUT
  • Al Horford (Health & Safety Protocols) – OUT
  • Payton Pritchard (Nasal Fracture) – OUT

No surprises there, and this means we’ll get one final look at Tatum, Schroder, and Richardson before the season begins.

Being the final preseason game, this is the last opportunity guys like Jabari Parker have to make their case for a roster spot. Personally, I think if Jabari can put a nice game together again, the spot is his for the taking, as he was clearly the best player last game from that third unit.

Again, it’s only preseason, still I’m expecting a good game. I’d like to see Tatum have a great first half against a decent Miami starting 5, a team we could encounter in the playoffs.
